With over 6 million liters of seawater and more than 5,000 fish, the North Sea Oceanarium is Northern Europe's largest aquarium. There are both large and small aquariums, with everything from the smallest plankton or goplin - to the larger predators such as sharks and rays. In the large Oceanarium, which holds no less than 4.5 million liters of fresh seawater, the lumpfish swim around among thousands of schools of fish.
Every day the diver jumps into the water to feed the fish and tell the guests about life in the sea. At the paddling pool, you can get up close to the crabs and starfish with your bare fists. Also meet Denmark's largest predator - the seal - which lives in the large outdoor pool, and in the underwater tunnel, where you can see the seals frolicking curiously in the water. A good and educational underwater journey is therefore guaranteed by a visit to the North Sea Oceanarium.
In fact, you can be entertained in all kinds of weather. The more than 6000 m2 outdoor areas contain both a lighthouse and a sperm whale in the large play area. In the Hvalforskerhytten, the skeletons of the giants of the sea can be studied, and the 17.4 meter long skeleton of the famous Blokhus fin whale can also be experienced. In our café you can bring your own food or enjoy the delicious dishes, with locally caught fish and fresh accessories adapted to the season.
The North Sea Oceanarium was created to convey about life in the North Sea, as well as how we can use the North Sea in a sustainable way. Nature conservation is therefore a fundamental value. It's about showing concern for the environment and the roaring sea, which lies right outside the door, through sustainable measures.
This means that possible areas of improvement, which benefit the climate, environment and nature, are constantly in mind - particularly through operational optimization, purchasing and communication to both guests and employees.
But this also applies to the operation of the site, which is why the Nordsøen Oceanarium is labeled with Green Attraction in March 2023.
The northern part of Jutland is full of unique nature experiences and viewpoints with stunning views of the ice age landscape, heather areas and white sand beaches. Here is also the attraction Nordic Folkecenter for Renewable Energy, where you can experience innovative solutions to renewable energy, and the Museum of Sustainability and Supply - MOSS, the cultural-historical museum with specialties within the people of Vildmosen, Møller and Jyske Å's history.
